Marvetta & Anthony Grimes Apartments & Family Center on westside of Indianapolis groundbreaking scheduled Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 2 p.m.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 1, 2024)
Volunteers of America Ohio and Indiana and Seeds of Hope, along with the new Marvetta & Anthony Grimes Apartments & Family Center project partners, will host a groundbreaking event on Thursday, May 16 at 2 p.m. The new affordable housing center is designed for families recovering and healing from substance use disorder. Project partners include VOA Ohio & Indiana, Seeds of Hope, 2 Thirty-Eight Properties and RealAmerica Companies.
The project is located on the west side of Indianapolis at I-465 and West Washington Street, 1425 S. Mickley Ave. When completed, it will create 34 two- and three-bedroom units in two buildings, on-site daycare, and a free medical clinic. “This new project is another profound example of how existing and new strategic partnerships deeply impact the people we serve and the communities where we live to create long-lasting change well into the future,” says John R. von Arx III, president and CEO of VOA Ohio & Indiana.

What
The $11 million Marvetta & Anthony Grimes Apartments & Family Center is a joint venture between VOA Ohio & Indiana and Seeds of Hope. The project concept is the vision of Fredrick “Fred” Yeakey and his newly formed housing development company 2 Thirty-Eight Properties LLC. In 2023, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s (IHCDA) selected his project concept as one of two emerging, first-time developments to receive low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC).
Partners
RealAmerica, an Indianapolis LIHTC developer, is a project consultant. Investment and financing partners include First Merchants Bank, Merchants Capital, and National Bank of Indianapolis. St. Mary’s Early Childhood Center will provide daycare services and Seeds of Change Free Clinic Inc. will provide medical services. The collaborative partners have a strong DE/I commitment that aligns with and fully supports the IHCDA emerging minority developer initiative.

Seeds of Hope, founded in 1999 by Father Glenn O’Connor, is a transitional housing facility for women who are recovering from drug or alcohol addiction. Our structured program typically lasting 6 to 9 months provides a strong foundation through a loving environment and empowers the women to lead drug-free sober, independent lives, as responsible members of society. Upon graduation from the program, women are encouraged to move to the Fr. Glenn O’Connor three quarter home for an additional 12 to 24 months, continuing to receive support from Seeds of Hope while establishing a firmer financial footing. The two homes on the Seeds of Hope sober living campus accommodate 38 women. Since inception, over 850 women have turned to Seeds of Hope for help.
