“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me'”
Matthew 28:18
A meditation moment by Robert Broomfield
Before I build a wall let me consider what it is I’m walling in and what it is I’m walling out.
Lest I believe good fences make good neighbors.
As a child growing up in the segregated south where the walls of segregation separated and divided people, opportunities, and experiences, I built a wall of introversion and fear to protect myself from the inequalities of a seemly cruel and unjust society. But there is something about a wall that doesn’t like being a wall that causes the it to dismantle itself seemingly without any external forces or power.
In Matthew 28:18 “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me…” We’re commanded by God to break down walls, walls that would not only limit us but limit others from receiving the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:19 in conjunction with 28:18 commands us to go and make disciples of all the nations. To go and break down walls of Darkness, Sin, Sickness and Death as well as walls of introversion and limitations. Walls that would separate us, shut us off from one another seemingly dismantle themselves without any external force or power is in reality the power of God moving in our lives and our circumstances to bring about the change that is God’s will for us.
Thoughtfully submitted,
Robert Broomfield, VOA Commissioned Minister
